How the Team Wellbeing Challenge works
The Challenge improves the energy levels, resilience and performance of participants by increasing activity levels, improving eating habits and assisting with weight loss. Delivered via an engaging online interface that represents the next generation of health and wellbeing programs, the TWC has a number of unique features that drive high participation and completion rates, resulting in happier, healthier, more productive employees.
Would you like to be treated as the unique Individual you are?
Unlike most team challenges which have a narrow activity focus and take a one size fits all approach, the TWC is personalised for each entrant who builds their own unique avatar and tailors their challenge site to focus on the goal most important to them.
Ever experienced the fun and excitement of planning a holiday?
Rather than have their challenge course destinations selected for them, each team plans their own virtual tourism adventure. They may choose to trek the Inca Trail then visit Manhattan to ice skate at the Rockefeller centre, before heading to Istanbul to visit the Grand Bazaar.
Do you find watching movies more engaging than a slide show?
Unlike traditional challenges that merely show static information about locations reached, guided by the event Coach, TWC participants view a short movie of their avatars on a tour of the each destination they selected and interact with other teams within the video.
Is overall wellbeing important to you, not just a ‘steps’ target?
The TWC is a true employee wellness solution as it combines three key wellbeing factors into one event, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of all three as they complement each other, delivering superior results to stand alone activity, nutrition or weight loss initiatives.
Increasing activity levels is a key component of the Challenge as exercise helps improve energy levels and resilience, however many people who would benefit the most are not engaged by traditional walking challenges so we take a fresh approach;
Employees organise themselves into teams of four, then as they complete their individual registration they personalise their experience by creating their own unique avatar.
Then teams plan their own virtual tourism adventure by selecting their favourite destinations and assembling them to create their Challenge course.
Each team also chooses the division to compete in so they are matched with other teams with a similar starting activity level. This is important so that those currently sedentary employees do not get discouraged by competing against those already active.
When the Challenge starts, participants increase and track their daily activity (steps and a choice of 50 other activities) to achieve the targets required to reach all their destinations during the Challenge.
Upon reaching each destination, they experience their virtual adventure by viewing a short video of their avatars experiencing that destination and interacting with other teams within the video.
This is much more engaging than traditional challenges that merely show static information about locations reached and results in a high level of buy in and commitment to achieving the targeted activity levels, as rather than ‘one size fits all’, each team has planned and experiences their own unique virtual adventure.
Simple changes to eating habits can make a big difference to how people feel and perform each day so once registered employees are encouraged to enter the integrated Nutrition Challenge.
Over the course of the event they are awarded points for engaging in eating behaviours that have an immediate impact on their energy and brain power. Points are awarded for behaviours such as eating a healthy breakfast, staying hydrated and eating recommended amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables.
As well as the resources on the Challenge site and educational Prize Draw questions, entrants receive weekly newsletters which contain simple, relevant tips and tools to support their change in eating habits
For further motivation to improve their diet, as well as their activity placing, the leader board will display both Team and Individual Nutrition point rankings so they can track their progress against their peers.
As many employees are interested in weight loss, the Challenge has an integrated weight loss challenge.
First they use the challenge calculator to estimate their daily ‘neutral’ energy needs, then they set a lower daily calorie target and to enhance weight loss also set a daily personal activity target.
During the Challenge we provide them guidance on easy ways to calculate their daily energy consumption and tips for healthy weight loss, focusing on losing body fat in a sustainable manner and avoiding the negative health effects of ‘crash’ diets.
Participants track their daily energy consumption and activity vs. their targets and can enter new weight and waist measurements at any time to track their weight loss progress and change in their BMI (Body Mass Index).
All entrants have access to the weight loss tools and can decide whether to keep their weight loss private, or display their personal and team percentage weight loss progress on the Challenge weight loss leader board.
